The UIN Sunan Kalijaga Summer Course 2026 officially commenced on 5 August 2026 under the theme “Digital Transformation and Scientific Innovation for the Global Halal Ecosystem.” The program brought together participants from eight countries alongside Indonesian students, creating an international platform for academic collaboration, cultural exchange, and knowledge sharing. Among the participants were Mamudou Bah from the Digital Business Study Program and Desvita Seisa Asyifa, Marsay Jihan Naifah, Rika Amanah Ikhsan, and Shalsabilla Tiara Husna from the Sharia Economics Study Program, all representing UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta at the international summer course.

The opening ceremony was officiated by the Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga and the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology. In their welcoming remarks, they emphasized the importance of international collaboration, scientific innovation, and digital transformation in addressing global challenges while strengthening the global halal ecosystem. They also encouraged participants to use the summer course as a platform for academic exchange, cross-cultural understanding, and international networking.

The first day’s sessions introduced participants to the global halal ecosystem, highlighting its integration with Islamic finance, halal food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, tourism, logistics, and digital technology. The discussions emphasized the importance of halal authentication, certification, and supply chain management in maintaining product integrity, consumer confidence, and sustainable industry development.

The speakers highlighted the growing economic significance of the halal industry, noting that global Muslim consumer spending is estimated at approximately USD 2.45 trillion, while Islamic finance assets have reached approximately USD 4.93 trillion. They also explained how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT) can enhance transparency, traceability, operational efficiency, and innovation throughout the halal value chain.

For the participants from UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta, the program provided valuable academic and practical insights into the role of digital transformation in supporting the global halal ecosystem. The sessions strengthened their understanding of innovation, sustainable business practices, Islamic economics, and the application of digital technologies in solving real-world challenges. Interacting with participants from diverse countries and academic backgrounds also broadened their global perspectives and enhanced intercultural communication skills.
